All agencies need to pay careful attention to two recent changes. The British government has established the Fundraising Regulator to strengthen the system of charity regulation and to restore public trust in fundraising. Also, building on the existing Data Protection Act, the General Data Protection Regulations will come into effect on 25 May 2018 (unaffected by Brexit) and will bring significant new obligations on organisations and rights for individuals. This forum is to help you understand this expanding legal framework, obligations (especially on trustees) and help guide you through the important task of compliance.
Topics to be covered:
- Brief overview of DPA principles
- Introduction to the breadth of GDPR
- Legal basis to holding and processing data (both a consent and a legitimate interest angle)
- Key developments with the Fundraising Regulator
- Onus on trustees
- Connecting with supporters
Our key speaker, Andrew Barton, has extensive experience in fundraising and data protection across the charity sector. The presentations will be interspersed with case studies, as well as opportunities for interaction, feedback and Q & A sessions.
We've compiled a very simple survey to help gauge awareness of the changes. Whether you are attending or not please follow this link and answer the questions (this should only take 5 minutes maximum). It will also help our planning for the day.
The event starts promptly at 11:00am (10:30am for refreshments) and finishes at 4:00pm.
The cost is £25 to people from GC member agencies and churches. Cost for non GC members is £55. Refreshments and lunch are included in the price. Please complete the form below to book your place. Due to the level of interest already shown we anticipate a high attendance. Thus we're using a venue with additional capacity but we'd still encourage you to reserve your place by booking promptly.
