Schools and Teachers

Global Connections works in the formal education sector to provide support, training and links for teachers. We are working to support the DFID Enabling Effective Support strategy.
TRAINING
We deliver In Service Training for teachers within LEA menus, at network days or in schools as part of Continuing Professional Development programmes.
We can help teachers incorporate Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship into their schemes of work.
We can attend meetings of advisors and highlight resources and activities.

∑ Fair Trade - KS 1 & 2
∑ Food - KS 2

RESOURCES
We have a wide range of ESDGC resources for schools. If your school is a member of Global Connections, you can borrow resources, teaching packs and videos. Resources are usually available to borrow for a term. If you wish to browse our resource centre, please telephone first (01646 687800), and we will arrange for our education officer to be here to meet you.
SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS AWARD SCHEME
Global Connections administers the Sustainable Schools Award scheme in Pembrokeshire, the first scheme of its kind in Wales. The award encourages the integration of education for sustainable development and global citizenship into all aspects of school life. Schools work on three topics to achieve the bronze award, through to eight for the gold. Currently 22 schools have gained the bronze award, 10 are at the silver stage, while two have reached the bronze.
Teachers are invited to training days each term, where they have a chance to network, and listen to speakers. The Sustainable Schools officer visits schools to offer support and resource advice.
There are seven partner organisations in the scheme – Global Connections, Pembrokeshire County Council, West Wales Eco Centre, Healthy Schools, Eco-Schools, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and SCAN at the Museums & Galleries of Wales.
ENABLING EFFECTIVE SUPPORT
Global Connections is an active member of the Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion EES forum. Recent events have been:
∑ Secondary School Teachers Conference - Botanic Gardens - 5th Feb 2008
∑ Primary school INSET
∑ Global Citizenship grants to schools
SCHOOL LINKING
School linking projects are a fantastic way for pupils to not only learn about other cultures, but also to follow similar schemes of work or topics and exchange what they are learning with new friends. Drawing on our experience of setting up and enabling links in Zanzibar and Italy, we can help you with advice to set up your own school-linking project. Working closely with the British Council, and other organisations, we can also point you in the direction of funding for those all-important exchange visits.
