Global Youth Work for the 21st Century

In March, Global Connections, based in Pembroke Dock, and Pembrokeshire County Council teamed up to secure funding from the Welsh Assembly Government to re-write and update a resource pack for Youth Workers. This resource, the Global Youth Work pack, focuses on delivering activities to young people, on Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC). These activities aim to help young people make sense of the world around them, to develop critical thinking skills, a sense of personal responsibility and promote active citizenship.
The new pack will be publicised at the Pembroke Dock Youth Centre in Bush Street, Pembroke Dock at 1.30 on Tuesday, 1st July. Copies will available free of charge, and there will be a chance for youth workers and others to chat about the issues involved, and how they affect young people.
Preceding the public event, there will be a workshop on Fair Trade with young people from the Pembroke Dock area.
Very recently, (June 7th 2008) Wales was declared the world’s first Fair Trade country, and as such this is an area of increasing interest both locally and nationally. The work that has been done in Pembrokeshire, both in schools and community groups has greatly contributed to this, and raise the profile of Fair Trade.
Copies of the Global Youth Work pack are available from Global Connections from 24th June.
