PLANNING FOR GROWTH - the implications for churches and missions of more BMBs
The Global Connections Muslim World Forum continues to examine issues which are relevant to the work and activities of agencies and churches engaging with Muslims around the world and locally and the Forum meeting on Wednesday 13th June 2018, will look at related issues ...
We observe growing movements to Christ in many Muslim communities and countries. What are the implications for discipleship of new believers and their integration within the global body of Christ’s followers? Which of them are able to join existing churches? If not, why not? How do churches need to change in order to accommodate them better? Who should be recognised as representing these believers? What do we regard as a fellowship, a church, a house meeting, a home group, a prayer group or a Bible study? When and how does a Bible study for those exploring the claims of Christ, become a fellowship or a church of Christ’s followers?
One perspective is to describe a spectrum whose end points are: (a) new wine in new wine-skins, so all BMBs meet outside of recognised churches with new churches and networks thereof being formed; and (b) all BMBs must join groups recognised by established churches, even if that means they must totally reject Muslim communities. There are many points between these extremes.
At a bigger level, how might communities, societies and nations change? How might patterns of persecution change? What are the implications for standing alongside our brothers and sisters?
A panel of speakers is being invited to lead our consideration of such matters.
The day will also include time for prayer and networking.
The meeting starts with refreshments (tea and coffee) at 11:30am and finishes at 4:00pm.
