One of the first regions our pioneer workers began serving in was West Africa in the 1980s. They sought to support the mobilisation of the African church to the least reached.
Currently, our teams serve in three nations across this region, including Burkina Faso. In this new season of ministry, they are focusing on partnering with local churches and mission movements to witness to people groups with little or no access to the gospel. Whilst the Christian faith has spread to many of the West African nations, Islam is still the largest religion in over half of them; more than 140 million people are from people groups that have yet to hear about Jesus.
Increased security risks across the Sahel in recent years have brought their own challenges, but God is moving powerfully, and new churches continue to be planted and existing ones strengthened.
Mission in West Africa requires a holistic approach. The huge needs of the people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds need to be prayerfully, lovingly and sustainably met, but the primary goal of sharing the gospel in ways local people can understand, remains.
As individuals are transformed by God’s love, they are able to hear from Him for themselves. In turn, they discover godly solutions to transform their own communities and reach their neighbours. Come and be a part of supporting our work in this diverse part of the world!
