Rob and Jo live out the gospel in Asia
See how you could follow one young couple into mission
Serving In Mission exists to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who would otherwise live and die without hearing it. That vision has inspired many people into mission work - not least a young couple, Rob and Jo, who are now serving with SIM in Asia.
Rob was a committed gospel worker throughout university, joining the campus Christian Union to spread the good news of Jesus. After university, Rob went through SIM’s Immerse programme, which is designed to help people in their 20s investigate God’s call. He served in Africa for two years and then returned to the UK, where he joined the staff of a large mission agency. But always his heart yearned for the mission field – and especially the mission field in Asia. Jo shared that passion and together they investigated the possibility of moving into long-term cross-cultural mission overseas. Eventually, God helped them put the pieces in place to go abroad, which they did last year. They are now learning the language and making friends so they can share the gospel with those who have never heard it.
Rob and Jo’s inspiring journey into mission is testimony to the power of the gospel. Serving In Mission has a series of programmes designed to obey Christ's mission in the 21st century. We are committed to working in close partnership with your sending church, to praying for you, and to ensuring you have the resources for sustainable mission. We have ministry opportunities to serve where Jesus is least known, through almost any vocation.
God's spirit equips people for mission service through his living word, the Bible. You will also receive help to develop a plan for your personal development throughout your period of service. The Immerse programme runs annually and offers one or two-year mission placements, with excellent training before you leave and mentoring from an experienced mission worker while overseas. Our Equip programme will help you with language and culture learning. You might work at a local church, reaching out cross-culturally to people who do not know Jesus. Our Send programme will support and guide you into committed disciple-making where Jesus is least known.
We will help you find the right place to serve, work with you to raise prayer and financial support and then, with your sending church, stand by you as you head into the gospel service.
