A pay cut for a Good News Club

"... If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)

Igor lives in Bratislava in Slovakia. After finishing a Teaching Children Effectively™ course with CEF he felt inspired to be involved in sharing the gospel and teaching the Bible to children. With this in mind, he hoped to open a weekly Good News Club® in a primary school in his neighbourhood.

However, after discussing it with the principle, Igor was told that the only time possible was Friday afternoon at 1pm. This was not the best time for Igor. Working as a serviceman for precise cutting machines, his job was to answer the company’s hotline, to jump into his car immediately in an emergency and to fix the broken machine. His boss was counting on him.

However the strong desire in Igor’s heart to open a club continued. He made his mind up to go to his boss and ask him to reduce his working time. Of course it would also mean that his salary would be reduced by 10 percent. Igor and his family were willing to make this sacrifice - it was so important to them that these children hear the gospel.

Igor prayed that God would prepare the heart of his boss and was already wondering what he should tell customers calling the hotline on Friday afternoon: “Sorry, our serviceman can’t come today, he has a Good News Club!?” Though it seemed impossible that he would get permission to take the time off, Igor shared about the Good News Club and asked his boss for permission. God’s mighty hand was with Igor, his boss agreed and Igor is now teaching 16 children each week.

Because Igor was willing to take this step of faith and his family were prepared to reduce their income, children who might never have heard the gospel taught clearly, now have regular, faithful teaching from God’s word. What an example!

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)
