Fore Street Methodist Church
In recent years, the Methodist Church has used as its guiding principles the theme of "Our Calling".
This under-pins all that the Methodist Church stands for and how we respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and live out our discipleship in worship and mission.
Through Our Calling, we seek to respond to God's love in Christ through:
Our Church exists to testify to the majesty, immeasurable love and limitless grace of our creator God and to celebrate all that He is and does through our worship and witness. To achieve this our focus in worship is centred around the person of His son, Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord.
We seek the Holy Spirit's guidance and empowering us as we share in fellowship and communion with other members of the body of Christ (His church). The doors of FSMC are open to all who would seek to discover who Jesus is, those who wish to grow in their walk with him, as well as those who wish to express awe and wonder, thankfulness, praise, and love towards God.
We are open to the Holy Spirit's leading in our styles of worship, recognising that the method is not as important as the motive for our worship and praise.
LEARNING & CARING
We are a forward-looking fellowship that seeks to help people to grow and learn as Christians, through mutual support and care.
We have a team of pastoral visitors who provide a link with the sick and housebound and a number of housegroups who meet regularly to delve deeper into what the bible has to say and to link our faith and understanding of God's word to everyday life.
We hold 'sharing' days when our congregation are invited to discuss our mission and work of the church and 'teaching days' when our pastor leads discussion on various topics of relevance to today's 'church'.
Some of our members are active in lobbying politicians on behalf of the persecuted, disenfranchised and neglected throughout the world whilst others are actively involved in our local community through the local council, Naval Association, Rugby Club, Community choir, RNLI, WI, Cancer Research etc.
As a body of believers as we actively support a number of external charities through financial donations, including Water Aid, Open Doors, The Barnabas Fund, Crisis, St.Petrocs, Hopelink, Cancer Research, St.Julia's Hospice, Children's Hospice SW, MNDAssociation, Operation Christmas Child and Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.
We recognise that our buildings need to be well maintained but not at the expense of our mission and our building development has been targeted to meet the needs of our service to God and our community.
Jesus has commanded us to "go and make disciples".
Our mission to our community Is expressed through the various meetings and activities that our fellowship provides, recognising that our service to God must be reflected in our service to our neighbours. We acknowledge that our mission is not restricted to church buildings and we seek to explore opportunities to evangelise and minister to our local community through taking assemblies and lessons in local schools, leading services in residential care and nursing homes, providing facilities for parent and baby groups, children and youth groups, lunch club, ladies and men's fellowship meetings, supported and underpinned by our prayer group.
Our outreach is continued through open air ministry to our visiting community as we hold services on the harbourside led by our gospel choir who also support other fellowships across the county through their service in song and testimony, acknowledging that we are "labourers together with Christ". Utilising our church buildings for open events such as Christmas Tree festivals, Christian art exhibitions, charitable concerts and prayer days have drawn an increasing number of people into the welcoming presence of the fellowship.
We utilise various methods of communicating with our congregation and visitors:- quarterly magazines, banners, posters, TV screens, website and social media sites such as facebook and twitter. Our website provides a comprehensive spread of our church's beliefs and work and carries our ministry around the world.
We are involved with other churches in outreach to our community hold open air services during the summer with the aim of leading others to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour .
