South Molton Methodist Church
We are part of the Methodist Church of Great Britain, the Plymouth and Exeter Methodist District (which comprises almost 300 churches mainly in Devon and Somerset and around 9000 members) and the South Molton and Ringsash Circuit (which comprises of 11 churches on either side of two major roads; the A361 southeast of Barnstaple and up to the edge of Exmoor and the A377 northwest of Crediton).
South Molton Methodist Church is a welcoming, caring and extremely busy Church with activities on the premises each day of the week. The premises have been extensively refurbished and modernised over recent years and now offers excellent facilities throughout which provide flexibility for use by the Church and the wider community.
The premises offer scope for a variety of activities and events. They are widely used by the Church and in great demand from outside users who find the space and facilities ideal. They are situated not far from the centre of the town and are passed daily by many parents and children on their way to and from school. Further mission opportunities are presented through the new houses being built relatively close to the Church and also through sites approved for future housing development. The Church has good, level easy access and a reasonable amount of on-site parking.
Serving the Lord Jesus Christ is not just a Sunday activity for this Church. We look to serve with a range of activities for all ages, working in partnership with others to make this happen where we are unable to take a lead ourselves.
Our Sunday worship shows a mix of the traditional to more modern styles.
The Church offers a range of activities including Women’s Fellowship, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade and Messy Church, all running alongside the normal Fellowship activities, Bible Studies and House Groups.
The church is part of Churches Together in South Molton, whose activities include various events. We normally share in special occasions such as the Olde English Fayre in June and Remembrance Sunday in November as well as a Good Friday act of witness.
Work with children and young people and their families is a key element in the life of the church. We have a large number of children and families associated with the church who regularly come to the various activities on offer. They are always willing to talk and have got to know our many volunteers well, and feel very much at home in the building.
Children and Young Families Work has always been at the heart of our work. The church recognises the responsibility to respond to local need and the importance of developing the work further and can see a real potential for growth.
People from the church are also involved in community based activities, in schools, in hospitals and local nursing homes, and we have a Circuit Youth Worker actively engaged with young people within the local secondary schools and in South Molton, North Molton and Brayford.
Action for Children Drop-in is held on Thursday mornings, and is extremely popular with parents and young children. Young families can bring their babies to be weighed, to play, and to stay for coffee and chat. This is an excellent opportunity for contact with young families, engaging in conversation with them and for building relationships with them. The Action for Children Team welcomes input and volunteers from the Church.
